Yet another year has gone by! Sometimes we are so occupied with our lives that time ceases to have any value! We fail to realize that time is something that we will never get back. This is what 2022 has taught me. To make the best use of time given to us. I am a master in procrastination. I even love that word! But… procrastination kills dreams… it kills opportunities!! And then we wonder where the time went!
2022 in Review
Once again, let me start with my reading goals. I had set it at 60 books but managed to read 33 books. Yes, it is really less for me but I read so many new authors. I also DNF’ed 2 books which took up a lot of my time. There were also 2 months when I didn’t read even a single book and then there was October when I read 7! My reading was not consistent in 2022 but I did mini reviews of every book that I read including the ones I didn’t finish. Now that is an achievement for me!
Professionally, 2022 did not go as I expected. I received a new opportunity but did not capitalize on it due to my procrastination. I was still able to update my skills, reconnect with old friends, colleagues and kick off new ventures.
Revamping my website was on the to do list for the last 2 years and I finally got around to it in October. While going through my old book reviews, I was actually surprised at how well I had written them! Writing doesn’t come easy to me but going back and reading my blogs have made me realize that I can write decently. And that I should continue it!
2022 was also the year when I lost many dear ones unexpectedly. This year made me feel as if I’ve reached an age where I hear more about deaths than births.
Even though I procrastinate a lot and even though I know I did not make the best use of my time in 2022, Toastmasters is the exception! I’ve never had such wonderful mentors in my life who know what I’m capable of even if I don’t believe it myself. Every time I faced a new challenge and got stuck, I was always fortunate to receive support from so many friends and mentors – people who selflessly encourage and wants us to reach greater heights. It has been a very rewarding year!
One of the most important goal I had set for 2022 was to prioritize the things I will say yes to and learn how to say no. Prioritizing is easy but saying no isn’t. I haven’t completely mastered the art of saying no… yes, it is an art! I would like to think that I’m halfway there. Still a long way to go.
..and then FIFA happened! December was definitely the highlight of 2022. We had the best time of our lives going for matches, different fan zones, various events and activities throughout Qatar. Even though I don’t religiously follow any sport, I have always loved tennis, football and cricket. Also, met one of my best friends after 13 years. He came all the way from Australia for the matches. Thank you, Qatar, for bringing FIFA here.
In a nutshell, 2022 was a year of meeting new people, reconnecting with old friends, forming new friendships, realizing my potential and taking up more opportunities.
Anticipating 2023
For the last 2 years, the number of books I’ve been able to read is on a constant decline. So, for 2023 I’m going to make sure that I read at least one book every week. 52 books in 52 weeks. That’s going to be my reading goal for 2023.
Professionally, I plan to capitalize on the opportunity that came my way at the end of 2022 and make sure I don’t let it go. This will mean no more procrastination, having a plan in place and getting things done on time.
My website has been inactive for more than a year and this needs to change. I will continue to do mini reviews and at the same time keep the blog active by doing complete reviews of the books that I loved reading. Slowly, by the end of 2023, I plan to get back to writing reviews regularly.
Toastmasters just keep surprising me every year! Learning never stops here and there is no limit to how much a person can grow. I still have a long way to go and definitely looking forward to all the challenges 2023 is going to throw at me.
And of course, the most important goal: Make use of my time effectively. Do away with procrastination. No more thinking “I will do it tomorrow”. There is no time like the present!
2023 is going to be all about time, time and time!
